EPPEI Power Seminar #1
ABSTRACT: The load-commutated fed-converter synchronous motor is becoming a real challenge to DC machine as the demand in high power applications increases. The main features of the system are reliability and cost. The purpose of the seminar is to highlight the principles upon which the drive works and to give a simple method of assessing performances and capabilities, and to establish an important performance criteria when compared to a DC motor. In addition, some of the control strategies are discussed to enable the system to perform at its optimum. Some simulated and experimental results are provided to illustrate the performances of the system. It will be shown that many of the features of the drive should extend its use in medium and low power range with Permanent Magnet Motors in residential and commercial applications. |
