EPPEI Faculty Recognitions Drs. Mehrdad (Mark) Ehsani and Hamid Toliyat were given patent awards by the Texas A&M University System Office of Technology Commercialization. Feb. 07 Dr. Chanan Singh was appointed holder of the Irma Runyon Chair, both in electrical and computer engineering. Feb. 07 Dr. B. Don Russell, Regents Professor and holder of the J. W. Runyon Professorship in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, won first place in the 2006 “Picture Research” photo contest, sponsored by Texas A&M’s Office of the Vice President for Research. Feb. 07. Dr. B. Don Russell, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been awarded the Meritorious Service Award of the Power. Dec. 06. Dr Hamid Toliyat, a professor for the department, received a TEES Faculty Fellow award from the Dwight Look College of Engineering at the Fall Meeting Awards. Oct. 06. Dr. B. Don Russell, Regents Professor and holder of the J.W. Runyon Jr. Professorship in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been elected a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) of the United Kingdom. April 06. Dr. Karen Butler-Purry, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been named recipient of the 2005 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Mentor Award. The award recognizes Butler-Purry for her "efforts for increasing the number of African Americans, Hispanic Americans and women with Ph.D.s in electrical engineering and computer sciences." Feb. 06. Karen Butler-Purry received the Shell Oil Company Faculty Fellow from the Dwight Look College of Engineering and presented the third lecture in the "First Friday Lecture Series" at Texas A&M called "Protecting National Security and Sailor Lives at Sea", a discussion about keeping the electric power system on navy ships operational through weapon hits. Mehrdad (Mark) Ehsani has been elected a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International for his "outstanding accomplishments in the field of hybrid electric vehicles". Dr. B. Don Russell was elected to the grade of Fellow by The Institution of Electrical Engineers (The IEE) in 2005 B. Don Russell has been appointed to a committee of the National Research Council of the National Academies. Dr. B. Don Russell was awarded Students' Choice Award for Best Electrical Engineering Professor, IEEE Student Branch, Texas A&M University, for 2004-2005. Dr. B. Don Russell was elected to the grade of Fellow by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in 2004. Dr. B. Don Russell was elected as a Charter Member of The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST) in 2004. Hamid Toliyat received the 2004 Cyril Veinott Award, an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power Engineering Society (PES) award Texas A&M Engineering has named Dr. Mark Ehsani as inaugural holder of one of two Robert M. Kennedy '26 Professorships in Electrical Engineering, 2004. Texas A&M Engineering has named Dr. Prasad Enjeti the inaugural holder of the TI Professorship in Engineering, 2004. Dr. Abur awarded American Electric Power Faculty Fellowship from the Dwight Look College of Engineering, 2003-2004. Karen Butler-Purry awarded Charles W. Crawford Service Award by the Dwight Look College of Engineering, 2003 Mehrdad Ehsani awarded BP Amoco Teaching Excellence Award, 2003 Prasad Enjeti awarded Association of Former Students College-Level Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching, 2003 Hamid Toliyat received Association of Former Students College Level Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching, 2003 Dr. Ehsani awarded 2003 IEEE Undergraduate Teaching Award
