  ECE undergraduate student receives inaugural IEEE PES scholarship award
 

Recently, an undergraduate student in The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University received the inaugural Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power & Energy Society (PES) Scholarship Plus Initiative™ award.

   
  Ehsani receives OTC’s Patent and Innovation Award
  Recently, a professor from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering was honored by Texas A&M University’s Office of Technology Commercialization.
   
  Two ECE students receive prestigious GCPA scholarship
  Recently two students in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University were awarded the prestigious Gulf Coast Power Association Scholarship. Richard H. Douglin and Tania Oritseweyinmi Okotie received their awards during a ceremony earlier this month. Both students are in a research group headed by Dr. Karen Butler-Purry, professor and Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies. Qualifications for the award include an interest in the power generation industry and a commitment to work in that industry and a good GPR.
   
  Benner Named Top Reviewer by Prestigious Journal
  Recently, Carl L. Benner, a senior research engineer with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, was named “Top Reviewer in 2010” by the journal Electric Power System Research.
   
  TAMU ECE Department Among Five Groups Awarded Millions by DOE to Modernize the Nation's Electric Grid
  ABB Inc. (Raleigh, North Carolina) led partnership, which includes The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University and Xcel Energy of Denver, Co, is among five groups that recently received funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) aimed at optimizing the nation's electric grid. Dr. Mladen Kezunovic, the Eugene E. Webb Professor in the department, is the Co-PI and lead for A&M’s part of the project.
   
  ECE Students win Texas Energy Primer Challenge
  On January 26, 2011 a group of students from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University took first place in the Texas Energy Primer Challenge sponsored by Power Across Texas in Austin, TX.
Ojay Anyaeji, Samantha Castillo and Amulaya Karavadi, under the advisement of Dr. Robert Balog, took first place in the Texas Energy Primer Challenge with their presentation on solar photovoltaic energy systems.
   
 

Singh Named Guest Professor at Tsinghua University

  Recently Dr. Chanan Singh from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University received the award of Guest Professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing, which is regarded as the topmost institution in engineering in China.
   
 

Xie Receives NSF Grant for Research on Alternative Methods of Integrating Renewable Energy Sources

  Dr. Le Xie, the sole principal investigator recently received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for his work titled "Look-Ahead Coordination of Variable Resources for Providing Electric Energy and Regulation Services."
